My hubby's brother is having a baby soon. we wont be able to go see them now, should I send and gift and what?

Ok he is his only brother and older than him by a few yrs. He lives in Canada and we are on good terms with them. I like my SIL and we get along fine. Its not like we are talking on the phone always but she and I talk for hours when we do talk. This is going to be their first baby and its a girl.
I was wondering if I should send a gift to them on the day she is born or a couple of days before or after. I really think I should as thats his only sibling and a huge moment of celebration for all of us. I plan to give her something more pricey like baby jewelry when I go to meet the baby myself.
But for now my question is, what should I send her? I was thinking about a baby basket? My budget is under $75 and I have seen some baskets but I need something that can be bought online and shipped to Canada.
Please help me decide.

That's a great idea, however instead of gift basket you could do a diaper bag basket or baby hamper basket and fill them with lots of great baby things - such as clothes, picture frames, etc. Or what you could do since you haven't met "the baby" yet but know your sister-in-law well, is get her a bunch of things to pamper herself - a spa gift certificate or lotions and goodies, something that will make her feel like herself again and so she can relax after 9 months of pregnancy and 2 weeks of torture (having the baby and being in the hospital and then recovering from lots of stress on her body).

Include a note saying how you can't wait to meet the little one, and until you get to see her and pamper them both - you want her to pamper and take care of herself! Sometimes that's really important after the birth of a child - especially the first one. A woman's body goes through lots of uncool things and it's not always a fun experience...
